Automatic Noise Ensemble 2005

Performance / Installation

ANE is a musician and dancer robot band, computer or human driven depending on the configuration (installation or performance). The first two members are "Talmus Taiwan", electric counterbass, and "Maxon Ford, el pata", flamenco guitar and percussion. These two machines come from the "Machina Artis 3.0" performance. The main addition is a new keyboard player with his own computer control and big hands, which is also the one that gives sense, due to his abilities, to this new performance. He plays a programmable synthesizer, which allows the use of a wide variety of sounds and the option of manipulating them live. A new cello player robot, and a dancer-percussionist robot completes the band. Upcoming additions include vocalist robots, and a new percussion player, fully programmable, which should serve as a rhythmic base for future versions of the performance based on the capabilities of a new computer control system, expanding the musical output of the band. The sound configuration is pretty simple, with the instruments sounding through a conventional PA system, with analogue control and some basic effects like reverb delay. A human sound engineer mixes and equalizes like in any another group.
